Scholarship Program

The Black Canyon Classics Car Club (BCC) was organized on April 1996 and is a 501(C)7 not for organization that was formed by a group interested in street rods and classic vehicles. The BCC hosts the annual Colorful Colorado Car, Truck, and Rod Show in the city of Montrose CO. Proceeds from this event are given to various charitable organizations in Montrose, and adjoining counties. In 1999 the BCC established a scholarship program that awards students that are pursuing post- secondary education in the automotive trades industry. In 2021 it was decided that this award would be offered exclusively to students from Technical College of the Rockies (TCR) as they have a two year dedicated automotive program.

  1. Award Description:
    A. One scholarship of $2000.00 will be awarded in April of each year.
    B. The funds will be presented to TCR in the student’s name.
    C. Preference will be given to second year students.
    D. The award is renewable; but must be re-applied for each year, up to two awards maximum.
  2. Applicant Requirements:
    A. Recipient must be enrolled, or enrolling into the Automotive Program at TCR by March of that year.
    B. Application period is January 1 till March 30th of that year.
    C. The application is to also include:
    a. A letter of intent stating the students desire to pursue this career field, personal circumstances, and future plans.
    b. Any letters of recommendation from people in the education, workplace, or automotive field.
    c. Preferential points will be given to second year students continuing the automotive program.
    d. Must be a graduate (or GED) from a high school in Montrose, Delta, Ouray, of San Miguel County and also reside therein. A transcript from the High School to also be included.
    e. Any transcripts from current/past enrollment at TCR or any other post-secondary institution.
    f. A resume showing personal contact information, employment history, activities, or community service.
  3. Applicants Procedure:
    1. The completed application form and any accompanying documentation must be mailed to:

All documents must be received by March 30th.

  1. Payment and Publicity:
    A. Scholarship selection will be announced by April 15th of that year.
    Presentation will be made at the Colorful Colorado Car Show (usually the first weekend in June of that year). Awardee must be present to accept the award in person and agree to have his or her photo taken. Awardee must agree to have their name and likeness used in any media release, marketing campaign, or future publication as the BCC sees fit.
    B. The awardee’s payment will be made to TCR in their name, to their school account using their student ID number by July of that year and must be used during the time they are enrolled at TCR.
